Industry in the Sultanate of Oman is starting to realize the value of social responsibility. To understand what social responsibility is, it is any act that an organization makes in order to benefit the society. It is somehow an ethical obligation pushing the organization to pay back the people of the country it is profiting from. The International College of Engineering and Management is putting an excellent example which makes it a role model in serving the nation and resident of this country as ICEM believes that giving back is the best way to say thank you.
One of the main social responsibility activities that ICEM organized last year is Salamati Campaign. The idea was that it is better to serve the community in one of the things that ICEM is best known, for which is health, safety and environment. ICEM gathered a specialized team to visit most of the schools all over the country in addition to ministries, companies and charitable organizations. The team was to set up presentations for both students and the staff of each school they visit. The presentations were to raise awareness among the society about the basic first aid, safety at home and fire science, the types of fire extinguishers and how to use them, and evacuation plans. The team visited more than 400 schools and reached out to more than 40,000 students. The feedback ICEM received was beyond expectations which made the management of ICEM and Salamati team feel grateful to what they have done and even keen to give more to this country and its people.
